Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Senior Pastor to lead and shepherd our congregation at the Church of God. As the spiritual leader of the church, the Senior Pastor will be responsible for providing spiritual guidance, preaching the Word of God, nurturing the congregation, and overseeing the overall ministry and administration of the church. The Senior Pastor will work collaboratively with church leadership, staff, and volunteers to fulfill the mission and vision of the Church of God and foster a vibrant and spiritually nurturing community.
Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership:
Provide strong spiritual leadership, teaching, and preaching that aligns with the doctrines and beliefs of the Church of God.
Lead by example, demonstrating a Christ-like character, humility, and integrity.
Guide the congregation in personal and collective spiritual growth and discipleship.
Preaching and Teaching:
Prepare and deliver engaging and impactful sermons that inspire, challenge, and encourage the congregation.
Conduct Bible studies and other educational programs to deepen the congregation’s understanding of Scripture.
Pastoral Care:
Shepherd and care for the spiritual and emotional needs of the congregation, providing counseling and support as necessary.
Visit and pray for members of the congregation in times of joy, crisis, illness, or loss.
Church Administration:
Collaborate with church leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to achieve the church’s mission and vision.
Oversee the church’s day-to-day operations, ensuring effective administration and efficient use of resources.
Outreach and Community Engagement:
Develop and lead outreach efforts to connect with the local community and share the love of Christ.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with other churches, community organizations, and leaders.
Discipleship and Equipping:
Develop and support discipleship programs to help members grow in their faith and become more effective witnesses of Christ.
Equip and empower volunteers and leaders to serve effectively in various ministries within the church.
Church Growth and Development:
Foster a culture of evangelism and growth, seeking to expand the church’s influence and impact in the community.
Encourage new members and visitors to become active participants in the church’s life.
Youth and Family Ministry:
Oversee and support the youth and family ministries, working with leaders to provide spiritual guidance and mentorship to young members.
Qualifications:
Understanding and following what it means to be a pastor as outlined in the New Testament books of Titus, Timothy, and Peter.
A deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and a mature spiritual life and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Demonstrated character traits of integrity, humility, and a servant heart.
Preferred Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from an accredited university. Equivalent experience and longevity as a pastor can be considered in lieu of a degree.
Previous pastoral experience in a leadership role, preferably in a similar church setting.
Demonstrated commitment to the beliefs and teachings of the Church of God.
Acknowledge that we are a non-apostolic, non-denominational organization. We have a traditional, southern-gospel music preference.
Strong interpersonal and pastoral care abilities, displaying empathy, compassion, and active listening.
Excellent preaching and teaching skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
Proven leadership skills, able to lead and collaborate with staff and volunteers to achieve common goals.
Demonstrated ability to engage and connect with the local community.
Effective organizational and administrative capabilities.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
The Senior Pastor will report to the church’s governing body and work closely with church leadership to fulfill the mission and vision of the Church of God.
This is a full-time position with flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings, as required for pastoral duties and church events.
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and designated worship services per week.
Vacation time will be determined at the time of hire. Three weeks paid time to supporting other meetings and revivals.
Office hours are negotiable and flexible based upon congregational needs.
Candidate should have the capability to lead and direct local campmeeting efforts, and work with church ministries and boards for a successful operation.
